Wilder Girls by Rory Power is definitely deserving of the hype that it has been getting. The writing is excellent, and the story has such an unique atmosphere that really transports you to this savage island. I was spooked from page one, and all the gore and blood was really scary but fun to read (since I love horror). The relationship are well developed; Hetty, Byatt, and Reese are distinct and are all very complex. The feminist aspect was also really interesting to read. This books is very comparable to Lord of the Flies, while also being different in its own way.
However, while I enjoyed this book a lot, I did find the middle part of the story to drag on a little too long. There were parts where I wanted to fast forward the story because it felt as though nothing new was happening. Overall, I would recommend this to people who like island survival stories, and who can handle LOTS of blood and guts.
