Wilder Girls is something I normally wouldn't pick up. I read it for book club and was left unsettled, which I feel is the point. While I didn't dislike this book, I feel like it could have been better in certain aspects.
Power delivers on the creepy and eerie descriptions of school girls trapped on an island that has been infected by the "Tox". I think she captured the way a school group would fall apart and survive in a cutthroat, ruthless way. The descriptions of the Tox and how it affects natures and the girls was enough to raise the hair on the back of my neck.
While I liked certain things, I really didn't like the romance aspect. I felt that it was unnecessary and tacked on. It was so quick and vague it didn't even feel like a real relationship. While I appreciate the female-female romance, it didn't matter and wasn't relevant to the story.
