So this was not what I was expecting. First of all, the world this story takes place in is so far removed from my reality. Usually that works in a books favor when having sci-fi and/or fantasy elements, but in this case I feel like the book was going for dystopian so it ended up being a negative. I thought this book was going to be like New Mutants meets Lord of the Flies, I was wrong. That was my biggest issue with this book, it wasn't what I thought it was going to be. That made it difficult for me to enjoy the book. Now, I know that isn't the books fault, so when I took a step back from it I started to like it more. Then, I realized the characters were also not my favorite. I couldn't connect with them. I think the best part of this book was that it was so far out there that I ended up enjoying its weirdness more than the actual characters. The ending was good though, all of a sudden I was hooked. Overall, I think this book was like a really good B-list horror movie.
