Dark and atmospheric
As a beloved fan of science fiction and dystopian / apocalyptic / end of the world / end of life as we know it type stories, I knew that “Wilder Girls” was going to be a hit for me. I began reading it while waiting for a friend of mine to meet me for dinner, and I recall being so invested in the novel, I was thinking about it and telling her about it after she arrived.
This is a story of a mysterious illness that causes the body to destroy itself. Eyes going blind, limbs going atrophied, the lungs liquifying. It’s horrible. The girls survive and endure until they just can’t live any longer. Too much pain and little quality of life left. The girls wait for supplies and guard their commune. Is life better outside the commune and is it worth escaping from? Or is it safer and healthier to stay, waiting for your sickness and death to come?
A fantastic world build.
