Creepy and Unique
A school of girls, ravaged by disease, stranded on an island. And then a girl disappears, and Hetty breaks quarantine. We don't get much of the other girls, just the main characters. I did love them, but I was also really interested to see the effect of the tox on the other girls and how their lives were. I loved the representation, the background romance was my favorite and I only wished there was more of it. The bodily horror was something different, I usually don't read horror but I enjoyed this. It was a fun, quick read. There could have been so much more to it though, especially considering how the ending was left off. The ending was ok, it was a bit of a cliffhanger and as this is standalone, there are no other books in the series. I don't know if I would pick up a sequel if there was, though. I did really like the characters and the writing, especially Byatt's chapters, which were artistically done.
