I wish I could buy into the buzz for Wilder Girls. The plot sounded so fantastic; feminist LGBTQ dystopian of a retelling of Lord of the Flies. I mean, how could you pass that up?! I went into this with some pretty high expectations but honestly felt a little let down. The first part of the book was a lot of filling in on the details and didn't feel so much like I was on the journey to discover it myself. As a lover of horror, I think I've been accustomed to more gory scenes but the most horrific thing in the book is teenage drama. By the end of the book, I had some unanswered questions and I didn't care of the ending. Despite all that, I did enjoy the adventure and the atmosphere Rory Power built. I will continue to read anything Rory Power publishes in the future!
