When first reading the synopsis of this book, I was highly intrigued not only by the Tox, but also by the author, who happens to be from Massachusetts like myself!!

Wilder Girls, couldn't have described them any better.
This was truly a one-of-a-kind novel and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it!

It starts off the bat, fast paced. It brings you to a time where an all-girls boarding school existed only on an island. Most of our daughters of The Navy and pretty much don't have any family.

Because of their separation from the real world, it becomes very easy for them to be forgotten when the Tox hits there bloodstream and creates a vicious worm-like creature that grows inside them, which creates them to have the strangest symptoms, that change there bodies forever.

Some girls like have silver hands, Byatt who has two spines, or if you're like Hetty, you now have one eye.

This was an insanely twisted book. I never imagined the Tox to take over as it did. It kept me hooked, with every chapter as the story progressed.

It was a little strange or more so confusing during the part where Byatt gets removed from Raxter to go to somewhere more secluded for treatment and overall, evaluation.

Dr. Paretta, who was introduced to Byatt upon arrival to their base camp set up outside of Raxter, tries to get to know Byatt as well as the Tox that's in her body.
During this time Byatt, uncovers a side to her that was not shown before throughout the book, and that is, that basically she's a liar and has always been manipulative.

She intrusts in Dr. Paretta and a young doctor, by persuading him to take her outside, while along with seducing him into kissing her (while she is very well aware of the Tox and that it will affect him immediately if she does so), which is when I truly understood Byatt's ways.

That part did overall not make sense to me. Maybe I didn't fully understand Byatt's whole situation and who she was before the Tox. I think after she left Raxter, it solely focused on Hetty and the others, such as Mrs. Welch.

That's why I rated it a 4/5, only because I read that part and was too confused.
I do recommend this book because it was super suspenseful and a had a different reading element to it that I am not used to as a reader.

The characters were mostly well developed and had a story each to their own.
And I am really looking forward to meeting Rory, at her book signing tonight!
