The Tox, as they call it, is a contagion that has killed many at their island school and has left the rest of the girls and faculty/staff altered in some rather gross and painful ways. Cure? Doesn't appear to be one coming anytime soon.
There was one scene where Hetty's eye was under scrutiny that just totally grossed me out. Nope, not reading any more!
Also, pet peeve of mine is the use of "me and her" kind of talk. It grates on me and turns me off to the story itself.
