The first thing I always notice is the quality of the writing. I always appreciate a writer who can paint a picture complete with not only the visuals, but also the mood. The book is (or at least starts off) with a much different mood than the impression I was initially given with the whimsical cover art. The topic is also a fave of mine: survival adventure. I'm excited to see how this plays out.
