I didn’t have to read too many pages to know that this was a book I wanted to read for myself. I’m an English teacher, and being around junior high student all the time, I feel like I’ve got a good idea of what they enjoy reading and what they don’t. The first few pages of this sneak peek held all the hallmarks of a fast-paced thriller that not only my junior high (young adult) students would love but that I would enjoy as well. From what I read, it was definitely giving me Lord of the Flies vibes, and I have to say that each student I’ve recommended LOTF to has come back wanting more like it. I can’t see this one being any different. Girls stuck on an island trying to fend for themselves and stay alive? A strange kind of, what? toxin? disease? that’s taking over everything but yet holds a curious appeal? Sign me up.
