The Jazz Age in Glitzy 1920s Chicago
[I claimed a copy with my points on BookishFirst - was so excited for this one I had to have it!]
WOW I really loved this! I typically don't even read much historical fiction, but when I heard about this new novel taking place in the roaring 20s in Chicago? I knew I had to read it!
The cover:
Loved it - we see that beautiful style that dresses had back then - loads of embellishments, pearls, and glitz and glamour galore!
The story:
Honoree Dalcour is a 105-year-old woman living under assisted care at the Bronzeville Senior Facility in Chicago IL. She has lived a long and full life with amazing stories to tell.
Sawyer Hayes is a film student studying for his degree, looking to put together a film about the Jazz Age in Chicago. He is looking to interview Honoree to gleam some information about the times.
Throughout the novel, we get both past and present-tense perspectives, both through Honoree's eventful life and Sawyer's interviews with her for his project. There is PLENTY of romance, drama, action, and suspense! - everything and anything you could ever dream in a historical fiction about the 1920s. Without getting into too much detail, I will say that Honoree may be hiding something... and Sawyer might just be able to get her to tell her real story.
The final chapters were not at ALL what I was expecting - and YES, I may have shed a couple tears along the way.
You don't wanna miss out on this one!
