Wild Women and the Blues by Denny S. Bryce was a wild ride from the beginning to the end. It was fascinating, well written and absolutely addicting.

5/5 stars

Honeree is a dancer in the 1920s in Chicago who is quickly being lifted up to things that are bigger and better. She meets Bessie who is a very young fellow dancer, who doesn’t know how to dance? Honerees ascension to fame takes a hit when she witnessed gang members kill a black man.

The characters in this book were so much fun to read about. It felt historically accurate, the dancers, the mobsters, even our modern day character Sawyer was a nice addition. I loved Honoree, Bessie, Trudy, Ezekiel and Pete. They were all so different, and unique it was fun getting to know all of them.

This book goes from 1925 to 2015 throughout, which I’ve loved in all of my previous reads, and this was definitely not an exception. It was such a fascinating contrast to go from the tragedies out 1925 characters were dealing with, to what Sawyer was dealing with in 2015. The connections were very well done.

I sped through this book. I couldn’t unravel the mystery fast enough, and now I just want to go back through and experience it again. This book was brilliant and I loved it. The ending was also perfect and everything I needed it to be!
