I have to say that I enjoyed this story with a dual timeline, the 1920s and present day, 2015. It did take about fifty pages to get invovled with the lives of the characters, Sawyer from present day and Honoree, Bessie and the rest of the Chicago folks from the past. The author's descriptions of what it may have been like for 'coloreds' in Chicago in the 1920s, overlapping with Al Capone and his bootlegging gangs really made you feel present, even though that was nearly 100 years ago. This story touches on many of the Chicago mobsters, organized crime, bootleggers during prohibition, and all the violence that went along with it. #wildwomenandtheblues #DennySBryce This is the author's debut novel and I think readers of historical fiction will enjoy it. There are some new names and some names you will know, like Louis Armstrong, that lived during this time period.
