I was first attracted to this book because of its beautiful cover, but then I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the writing matched the Jazz-age look as well. It is amazing to see the culture in America one hundred years ago. I loved the vocabulary that was used to really bring out the 1920's feel such as using "sashaying" instead of walking and even fun references to things like MoonPies. There are plenty of books in this time period, but it is absolutely incredible to have a black author writing about a culture that we would never have seen from the classics we read in school. You will instantly fall in love with these characters, and feel their connections even though they lived in different centuries. This book is full of passion, culture, history, courage, and of course, the vibrant music that finds its way into your heart, Jazz.
