This is an amazing, amazing historical fiction book! I will be reading more books by this author in the future! This novel has dual timelines - 1925 and 2015. The 1925 piece is all about Honoree Dalcour's life as a chorus girl, her personal struggles trying to make it as an African-American in 1920's Chicago, during the time of the jazz age, mobsters, murders, and booze. 2015 is about Sawyer, a young film student trying to finish his film project for graduate school; part of finishing that is interviewing 110 year-old Honoree about her life in the 1920's and who she knew. What starts out as a project between them becomes much more. The author brings these two timelines together expertly.
The characters in this story, both main and side, were very well developed, to the point that you felt you knew them. The twists and turns in the characters' lives contributed to the intriguing story line and novel overall.
