I felt like Honoree leapt off the pages, as if she were alive right with me. This book retells her story in a way that a movie might and that’s probably why I can imagine Honoree so vividly. She seems like the epitome of older people who have the best stories, like closed books just waiting to be opened.

I was slower to take to Sawyer. It felt like his character was almost too open, too easy to get. I didn’t like that we immediately learned he was a romantic, his sister had died, etc. I felt like that should have been info you have to work for or find out later. Sawyer’s character was told to me rather than shown. It was strange how up front his character was.

Still, I would definitely want to keep reading, probably drawn more to Honoree’s story than Sawyer’s. I imagine Sawyer’s story becomes more interesting as it goes, while Honoree’s had the benefit of sort of jumping right into the action.
