Oh boy. I was really, really excited for this one. Look at the cover, the description gives you Daisy Jones and the Six vibes, and it deals with race.

It had everything I wanted.

Unfortunately, for me, I didn't think it was that strong of a novel. :/ I felt distant from the protagonist at times, and the supporting characters weren't all that memorable and or good friends of the protagonist.

I felt that the modern-day period excerpts were keeping my attention more, which should not be the case. Both should require my attention an interest.

I guess I wanted something more stronger/engaging with the plot, it just was bland to me. Maybe if there was a bit more intrigue, location change, or various other things happening then it would be of interest to me. Others who read the book seemed to have the same issues.

Overall, it wasn't a bad debut just a bit of a let down with all the hype.
