Wild Women & The Blues was a really fun look into the past, specifically Jazz-age Chicago. There were two timelines -- 1920's Chicago & modern-day Chicago -- and I just really thought the modern-day plotline was unnecessary and boring. However, the historical plotline was brilliantly researched and quite atmospheric. I loved hearing Honoree's story and point of view! The book dealt with race, gender, and classism, and taught me a lot about the Jazz Age. There were familiar names peppered in throughout the novel, which made it really fun. The story was really well done and all of the characters were engaging and well-written. I just don't think that every historical fiction novel needs to have a modern day storyline, and I think this book would have been so much stronger without it! I hope Denny Bryce continues to write about this era, but maybe keep the story anchored in the past.
