To begin, I loved this cover online when I first saw it--but when I received the physical copy of the book the cover is even more beautiful. Unlike so many book covers, I felt like this gorgeous cover set the tone for the book. As the book began, I enjoyed learning about Honoree and her life as a dancer in Capone controlled 1925 Chicago. I honestly didn't know much about this era and enjoyed learning more about Oscar Micheaux, Louis Armstrong, and Lil Hardin Armstrong when they appear in the book.

As the book progressed, I did struggle with the 2nd timeline story of Sawyer interviewing a now 110 year old Honoree. I wanted Honoree to share more info with Sawyer during this interviews versus the many "too tired to talk today" conversations. Although he eventually learns more about her and the lives of those around her, I would have liked to have learned more from those conversations. However, after the book was finished, I also recognized the reasoning for this as well.

Overall, this is an interesting historical fictions with a mystery thrown in--- enjoy!
