Thanks to bookishfirst and Kensington for the early copy of this one for review.

I thought I would really enjoy this. A story of black Chicago in the jazz age with the dancers and exciting setting. A dual timeline with a young man trying to make a documentary and possibly finding some rare film- a puzzle that miss Honoree, a 110 year old nursing home resident, can solve.

However reading through 40% of this I had a hard time getting through it and found myself not caring about the story. I’m not a mystery person so that element fell flat. I didn’t feel that I connected to any of the characters. I didn’t particularly enjoy the plot.

When it wasn’t picking up for me I decided to just stop reading it. This may be a perfect book for many others but just was not for me. I do appreciate the story of the black women during the jazz age, that isn’t something I’ve seen.
