In the chapters that are set in 1925 the wording and the way things are describe transported me to that time. It was well described using terminology used during that time. I was worried that having that time period written into the story and having a lot of it be about Jazz would make it boring and would make it feel old to me, but I was surprised at how much I liked it. It was written in a way that didn’t make it feel like a history book that I have to drag through but made it actually interesting to read about that time.

I really love reading about Honoree when she was young and then when she is 110 years old. It provides a different prospective and changing between plot lines keeps it interesting. It is also very well written, easy to follow but uniquely described. I also love the interactions between characters and the strong personalities all the characters even the minor ones have. I feel like you know the characters right away because their personalities are so well shown.

The cover is also stunning and well designed to show the time period the book’s story is set in. Having the faded worn brown and green colors shows right away this is a historical book. Having the women in the cover wearing that outfit with all the other small but powerful details aids even more into presenting the plot of this book. It truly is the perfect cover for this book.
