Fell flat for me

I was so excited to read a black perspective on the Gilded Age, but the writing of this unfortunately fell flat for me. Sawyer's back story of the melancholy filmmaker with a troubled past seemed fairly generic for me and Honoree's perspective lacked vibrancy.

I absolutely loved the jacket cover, which helped draw me in in the first place. You immediately get the sense that this will feature a black voice with some experience of the 20's. Unfortunately, the writing could have been more nuanced to round out this story.
