As the reader is introduced to Sawyer, a young film student who is seeking information on old photographs from 110-year-old Honoree, who is pictured in the photographs, there are subtle clues that this story will involve much more than a simple back-and-forth interview with an aging subject. There are links that connect Sawyer to Honoree through his grandmother, and there is also the backstory of his own personal recent tragedy. As the story continues, the reader is captivated by this novel about the Capone era of Bronzeville in Chicago in the mid-1920’s.
