The formula is common for historical fiction - alternating timelines between past and present, until a secret connecting the two is revealed. It's common but it works, and this novel promises lots of secrets to uncover. I know very little about Chicago in the 1920s or about jazz, but that's why I'm looking forward to reading this novel!
