Wild memoir about a daughter who helps her mother hide her affair with her stepfathers best friend for close to a decade. Well written, well paced, fleshed out characters. Slightly pretentious.
The problem for much of this memoir is the belief that we are supposed to feel sympathy for either of these characters who quite honestly ruined many peoples lives with zero actual consequences and even less retribution for those they harmed including children.
That said, the author offers up a compelling, readable story that also has some very interesting things going on in regard to her relationship with both her brother, her father, and the man she would help her mother have an affair with who she does end up having a paternal relationship with. In adulthood she sees direct parallels to her mothers life in her own and is forced to face the person she has become.
