Adrienne Brodeur's Wild Game: My Mother, My Lover, and Me is a memoir that reads like whirlwind fiction.

Having received this book as part of my Book of the Month membership, I was excited to read this, based on the stellar reviews, but I am sad to say it was not quite up my alley. I may actually have enjoyed it more if it were fiction.

The story of a mother confiding in her fourteen-year-old daughter about an illicit affair was just a bit too unsavory for me. The emotional abuse that Adrienne went through being her mother's confidant was just too much for me. It didn't just put strain on Adrienne, it also tore her family apart and strained her relationship with her older brother and her stepfather as well. It just wasn't a story I wanted to keep going.
