I really liked the depth of the author’s writing in this book. She started her story based around her childhood and what started a very toxic relationship between her and her mother and it moved forward into her adult life and so much effected her as she matured. I thought that she really did a great job with the descriptions throughout the book between her mother’s cooking and the setting to the relationships she witnessed through the years that her mother orchestrated. It really shows the difficulty of being a child and being caught between the love you have for your parents and the need to make decisions that can impact you for the rest of your life. I did think at times it was a bit drawn out, but overall great writing and heartfelt.
