I had the opportunity to read an ARC of Wild Game: My Mother, Her Lover, and Me by Adrienne Brodeur. Wild Game is a memoir about the extremely complicated and dysfunctional relationship between her and her mother, Malabar. As the title infers, Ms. Brodeur becomes entrenched in her mother's affair which begins when Brodeur was 14 years old. The affair is a predominant theme of the memoir but what really stood out for me was dysfunctional cycles of families which tend to repeat themselves.

Ms. Brodeur chronicles the complexities of her relationship with her mother and the effects that relationship had on her adolescence and early adulthood. Her reflections regarding the challenges in attempting to separate herself from Malabar in adulthood, confronting her emotional past, attempting to find herself, and move forward, were extremely insightful and thought provoking.

Thank you for sharing, Adrienne!
