Narcissism Illustrated

This true story of the manipulations of a narcissist mother is riveting. The author idolizes her mother and only several years after growing up does she understand how abnormal her upbringing was and how skewed her relationship with her mother was. As a child she wanted to please her mother, which required her to keep secret and facilitate her mother's affair with her father's best friend. The writing is fascinating and illustrates how important our parents are to us as role models. The author has managed to break free from the very destructive patterns set for her by her mother. This memoir and the psychological issues it presents will stay with you long after you finish reading it. It would be great for book clubs.
