Interesting look at family relationships
I really enjoyed Wild Game, a story where Adrienne Brodeur reflects on the very convoluted relationship with her mother, Malabar. I loved the writing as it felt like you were reading a friends diary. Adrienne and her mother had quite a dysfunctional relationship, and her mother never quite understood acting her role as the adult figure. She was manipulative and self-centered and never properly took care of Adrienne as a child. Adrienne was forced to be wise beyond her years and help her mother hide her secrets and infidelity as if it contributed to a special bond they had.
Overall it was a fascinating story about relationships and the choices we make to protect those we love. It was nice to watch Adrienne slowly figure out how to love herself and heal from the wounds of her mother.
