It seems at the surface like knowing your mom is having an affair would suck, but isn't life-altering. In Wild Game, Adrienne not only knows but is forced to participate in the cover up and manipulated by her mom to lie to people she cares about, doing irreparable damage to Adrienne's current and future relationships. I think it is more about coming to terms with the fact that parents aren't selfless and don't always have the best intentions for their children. Although obviously one sided, Adrienne's mother is a villain who keeps her adolescent daughter tethered to her with secrets at a time when Adrienne should have been finding herself and her freedom. It is a unique memoir in that it really focuses more on how one life affects another, rather than the important events in an author's life.
