I'm normally not big on memoirs, but this one got me. I love how real, raw and honest the author is about her life, her mother's life, and the role she played in her mother's life. I found myself sympathetic to both Rennie (through the entire book!) & Malabar (only sometimes!) while also finding myself disgusted and angry at Malabar for putting Rennie in the position she did.
Just imagine, at the age of 14, all of a sudden becoming your mother's confidant and best friend when she wakes you up one night to tell you she was just kissed by her husband (your step father's) best friend. And just imagine wanting nothing but your mother's love and acceptance. What would you do?
Enthralling and nonstop, I was captivated from the go and I foresee this being a favorite memoir of 2019.
