I wasn't sure how I would like this book. I'm a big fan of memoirs, especially unique situations like the one described in this story. The storytelling at the beginning wasn't my favorite and felt a bit slow, but once you started to understand the character's fears, desires, and faults, the story really picked up. By the end, it left me re-evaluating some of the relationships in my life. It shows that Mothers are not always these superheroes that we believe that they are. It also shows how situations from when you grew up affect how you act in the future, but you can break the cycle when you become a parent. I would recommend this book to certain female friends I have as it makes you really think about your relationship with your mother once you finish the book. While it wasn't my favorite book or memoir I read this year, I am glad that I had a chance to read it.
