Wild Game is a memoir that follows the effect that her mother’s affair has on Adrienne “Rennie”, who is a teenager when her mother comes in her room to tell her that her stepfather’s best friend has just kissed her. From that small moment, a riptide of events occur that end up following Rennie throughout her life.

If you hear the words “nonfiction” and immediately think of those huge textbooks you had to lug around in college, this may be a good book to change that perception! While I was reading it, I described this book as a soap-opera train wreck—but oh so good. Every time I thought the drama was wrapping up, there was one more event that made me say, “Are you freaking kidding me?!” The star of this story is the mother-daughter relationship, which was so complex and interesting. Even though I was downright furious with the characters throughout most of it, I couldn’t get enough.

One of the other subtle things I loved about this book is the connection of the title to the story. The obvious insinuation is that Wild Game is describing affair with the daughter’s involvement, but I really enjoyed the backstory of how that term came to be. I gave this 4.5 stars and definitely would recommend it!
