Memoirs about our relationships with our parents are always difficult to read, and I can't imagine what it took for Adrienne Brodeur to write this. It's chilling and tragic to read how young Adrienne was excited to become her mother's confidante, incapable of understanding that this trauma would follow her for the rest of her life. Uncomfortable but deeply compelling, this memoir's unflinching intimacy is sure to make for a titillating read.
