Torn between liking and upsetting

Wow is about the only word I have for this excerpt. I am torn over how I feel about Malabar using Rennie as her confidante. I don’t like putting a child in that position. Torn because although I don’t like it I want to read more to know what happens next. I didn’t think I’d like this book and really didn’t want to read it, but now I need to read more.
The jacket cover really didn’t inspire much in me though unfortunately. It’s not bad, but to me I wouldn’t have grabbed it.
