Heartbreaking and honest

This heartbreaking and honest account is a peek into a dysfunctional relationship between a mother and daughter. Adrienne, the author's, childhood abruptly ends in the middle of the night when she is 14 years old and her mother wakes her up to divulge the fact that she started a secret affair with her husband's best friend. From that moment on, the author become complicit in her mother's decades-long affair. As a mom, I cannot imagine putting my child in this tenuous position and robbing her of a nurturing mother/daughter relationship.
