Wondering What Will Happen-a mystery, for sure

I enjoyed the excerpt, although I was puzzled about so many of the characters that I would like to read the rest of the book. I have not read the book that comes before this one,and in a way it is kind of fun to be so clueless about the plot. For example: the rude, brusque woman named Linda. Why is she hanging around with expensively dressed, well spoken women? The private investigator obviously has some sorrows in his past. Harry, the criminal who supposedly is dead, is alive and well and now is in Rio. And right off the bat, there is some tension with the wife of Harry's friend who is providing the temporary crashpad. How can she sense so soon that she doesn't want Harry there? Or is it just a matter of too many people in too little space? The exotic setting will sure provide plenty of excitement.
