Recap Does Not Make Me Want to Read It or the First

I have not had the chance to read the first book yet, so take this with a grain of salt. But this story has little appeal to me. Based on the summary of the first book provided at the beginning of the First Look, I don't feel like I understand the motivations of the characters or the supposed plot twists of the first story. Maybe if I actually read the first story I might feel differently, but just the recap alone does not make me eager to read it or the sequel.
