I checked out this book from the library about a year or so after it’s publication, and I was so lucky because I had to get my hands on the sequel right away after I finished! the sequel had recently come out and was ALSO in the library so I got to read them both back to back

I love fantasy and I love YA fantasy, but generally urban fantasy is not my first pick. Oh boy, did this book prove my assumptions wrong. I’ve grown tired of werewolves and vampires stalking city streets, after being a Cassandra Clare fanatic for 10 years. So I’ve generally turned away from those. I’m so happy I decided to try this one out.
It reads like a freaking Korean drama! the high stakes, the romance at its core and the big conflict keeping the love interests apart...I could not stop reading. I had to find out how Miyoung and Jihoon resolved their relationship cause if they weren’t together by the end of the book I don’t know what I would’ve done. I love the interspersed folktales from Korean mythology. It added such atmosphere to the book and was also just entertaining. They made for great fillers to transition from one plot point to the next and their relevance become super apparent towards the end. I also love the fierce Miyoung and the humorous, gentler, fiercely loyal Jihoon :)

This author is definitely a must read for me now and I can’t wait to see what else she comes up with!
