Wicked Fox by Kat Cho is set in modern day Seoul, Korea centered around a gumiho, Gu Miyoung, a fox who devours the energy of men to survive. While Gu is the hero of the story, there is a duality there where she is also the monster. We meet Jihoon, a human, where Gu feels compelled to rescue from a goblin while losing her fox bead-her gumiho soul. This begins a romance between the two as they figure out how to navigate their relationship and the enemies tracking them. With all the substance in the beginning, the middle of the book drags as nothing happens. The end picks up like the beginning and with an added twist about the lore of the gumiho. There is definitely more that can be said after the book ended.
