This has to be my favorite book of the year thus far. Addictive and thrilling with action and strong characters and a great slow forming friendship. Not to mention adventurous with Korean Folktales woven withing the story. And the cover is absolutely stunning.

Wicked Fox is written in third person and revolves around Miyoung who is a gumiho, and Jihoon. In the beginning, Miyoung is an independent and stand off-ish character who doesn't trust anyone, but what made her a strong, well rounded character is that we also see another side of her from the very beginning. We also see a vulnerable side of her. We see just how lonely she really is. She's always moving from place to place with her mother and doesn’t have roots or friends. Then there's Jihoon. I really liked him. From the outside, he's likable and has many friends. He's carefree and gets away with (mostly) everything, but much like Miyoung, we also see another side of him. Both characters recognize something in themselves in each other and slowly form a friendship.

What I really liked about his book was the slow burn friendship. It wasn’t just that both characters had chemistry or a connection, but that they slowly became friends and learned to trust one another. They both helped each other grow and learn a lot about themselves. Jihoon never gave up on Miyoung and taught her that it's okay to trust and lets others in. Although Miyoung was reluctant to form any kind of friendship with anyone, she eventually started to look forward to having a friend and maybe even one day go on a first date.

I also liked that it took place in modern say Seoul. I think it gave more atmosphere to the story because Miyoung wasn’t just a mythical creature, there was also the element of also navigating through life now with different challenges and obstacles. You have Miyoung trying to learn who she is and how to live her life, which many people can relate to, but there's also the folklore that surrounds what she is as well as stories of past gumihos.

But my favorite aspect about the book was the narration. I don’t normally gravitate towards third person narratives because it feels like a story is being told rather than being lived, but this wasn’t the case for Wicked Fox. The narration between Miyoung and Jihoon felt relatable and easy. Their friendship wasn't forced or instalove. It was well developed and slow forming, making it that much more believable.

Wicked Fox was addictive fantasy romance set in modern day Seoul. It was action and tension filled. Tension rose quickly and Miyoung's mother was something else. I would not want to be in the same room as her. But overall, it was fast paced, exciting and addictive and I can't wait to see where the story will take us next.
