I began this book with some trepidation, since it was decidely not in the genre that I often read in (fantasy, YA or adult). In the end, it was a perfectly fine novel, but I'm not too sure what to say about it. I actually DNFed it==it just didn't catch my interest and I have a to-be-read pile that is more like a to-be-read bookshelf. I think that fans of Louise Erdrich will be drawn to this book (I had to read one of her books for class, but I felt like that one was a slog for me as well. These things are sometimes just personal preference, so definitely take it with a grain of salt!!! Also if you read Leslie Marmom Silko, this is a pick you might want to give a try). I rounded up from 3.5 to give this book a 4. I was a fan of the mystery element that was woven into the book, and I did learn something new from the book--that horse diving was a thing that actually existed! I had to look up pictures of it... definitely not something I had ever heard of! And now I do.
