I received an ARC of this book for an honest review. This was a nice average historical fiction story with some magical realism. I did enjoy this read but as I said it was just average and nothing really was outstanding or gripping. It's the story of Two Feathers who performs at a fair by horse diving. There is an accident and the story continues with a man who is obsessed with Two and how he thinks she should be with him and how he goes about causing havoc. There are also the stories of the other people associated with the fair and zoo and how they all come together for the day to day happenings of fair/zoo life.
What I did enjoy and always find interesting is the history of Native Americans and African Americans of that time, the 1920s. How America was built on blood and dominance of White people. I am very interested in Native American lore and mythology and I did enjoy the stories of the spirits that visit and Little Elk's story line.
I recommend this book if you are looking for a nice read from that time period that explores racial tensions and the politics and norms of the time.
