After reading The Night Circus a few years ago I feel like there’s been a decent amount of books set in a circus or circus like environment. This book definitely offers a different story. It’s 1926 in Tennessee, Two is Indian and she’s performing as a horse diver. This is during a time when people are openly treated different because of their race or ethnicity and it wasn’t easy being an Indian around a bunch of white people trying to classify her worth. This excerpt introduces us to Two Feathers which is more of a stage name. We learn a bit about her horse diving, her family and a secret admirer, and that there’s something lurking with a sick hippopotamus.
