This compelling novel seems unlike any other book I have read. I love historical fictions and naturally gravitate towards them, but this book has some very unusual and intriguing elements. I love that it tackles some of the racism that occurs in that time period. I also love that the protagonist is of Cherokee descent, as am I, though not presenting besides the occasional person asking if I am Indian, so I have never faced these challenges. The uniqueness of her name is addressed multiple times. I love studying onomatology and have always enjoyed seeing the tribal names of a few of my ancestors on my family tree. I think this book would be a fantastic read for anyone as some people may really relate or enjoy reading about challenges their ancestors may have faced while others can develop empathy for people who have or do currently face these challenges and do their part to help stop this discrimination. I'm excited to find out what happens next!
