Didn't really make an impression on me

This first impression failed to leave much of an impression on me. While the opening chapter tried to set the scene and tone of the book, it just didn't pull me in. The following chapters carried on in that same way. The writing was fine, the character good, but it just lacked something to hook me. I was also not a fan of the cover.
