This book was absolutely phenomenal. It took my breath away from the very first chapter. I am very fortunate and grew up in a place where I was free. I was able to make my own choices. My parents were able to make their own choices.
This book showed me what a life without privilege would be like. How hard life for other people is. To live under the reign of someone you are absolutely terrified of? And to live through that for years?? I couldn’t even imagine.
I know only a little bit about the people in Iraq. I know next to nothing. That’s part of the reason this book was so intriguing to me. I wanted to learn more about their life and they way they live. How hard it is, how much they sacrifice and go through for their own families. Their own lives! I cried. On more than one occasion during the reading of this book. The author is amazing. Such a great story teller.
This book was definitely worth the read and the wait. I don’t regret this read one bit. Read it. You will enjoy it as much as I did. If not more. Amazing!!!
