I picked up this book by chance and was pleasantly surprised that I quite enjoyed this book. Lately I have found myself reaching for more diverse books, and this one certainly fit the bill!
While this book is historical fiction, I felt like it gives good insight into life in the middle east during this time period. This novel takes place in Iraq during the rule of Saddam Hussein. The writing style is lyrical and descriptive, and the reader is easily transported into another time and place. I liked how the novel follows three characters and interweaves their stories for a powerful impact. My only complaint with this book is the pace of the novel, at times it seemed to drag and I found myself just skimming the pages to get through them.
Overall this book was thought provoking and suspenseful. I would definitely recommend this book if you like historical fiction!
