Reading the plot summary of this book, I was intrigued by the subject but not entirely sure it would hold my interest. I was pleasantly surprised. It's the story of 3 women living in Iraq during the rule of Saddam Hussein, two friends from childhood, who grew up there and the third, a foreigner, trying to live in a world she doesn't understand. As their lives intersect, we see just how far each will go to protect their loved ones and even to protect a stranger.
I found this book to be so interesting....getting to see how people lived and the fear they lived under for so long. I think very few people know what life really was like for the citizens of that country at that time. It was very eye-opening in that respect, but overall, it really was a well-written story of friendship and a mother's love and willingness to sacrifice. I'm so glad I had the chance to read this, one of my favorites this year.
